Development Manager

The Development Manager is responsible for implementing a range of fundraising and engagement efforts in order to raise the funds, as well as build and cultivate the relationships necessary for CASA to carry out its mission. The Development Manager will coordinate her/his efforts with the Business and Marketing Manager and report to and support other fundraising and engagement efforts of the CEO. The Development Manager will procure interns and community volunteers to support some communications or fundraising tasks.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, however, a high school diploma or equivalent plus significant related experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Proven success of raising funds for nonprofits, is preferred.
  • Fundraising, communication, marketing or sales experience is preferred.
  • Experience using databases, fundraising software, CRMs, Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and Facebook.

Summary of responsibilities

Development Planning. With the CEO and Business Manager, define yearly income goals, and a fundraising plan and strategy to achieve them. Prepare progress reports.

Individual and Corporate Giving. Draft letters for the Annual Giving Campaign appeals. Produce in-house annual giving mailings. Design and produce all printed and digital materials for donor cultivation, solicitation, and recognition as per the Annual Fundraising Plan. Ensure appropriate and timely acknowledgement of donor gifts. Identify and implement strategies to grow our annual giving donor list. Identify and create a plan to cultivate and solicit corporate donors.

Database Management. Register and track donor gifts in our database. Update and maintain donor and prospect information and communications in our database. Regularly update and clean the database.

Major Gifts. Use our and other databases as well as public information to research individuals and corporations with high-capacity to give and an inclination to support CASA’s mission. Identify and engage with these individuals and corporations to secure gifts for CASA by developing and maintaining a list of individuals and corporations, and continuously visiting them to secure long-term financial support that meet our annual and strategic goals.  Coordinate the work of a Development Committee comprised of community volunteers, with the CEO and designated Board Members.

Assist the CEO  in Grant writing as requested.

  • Creating compelling stories and messages.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to make a compelling, moving and detailed presentation about CASA.
  • Event planning and production
  • G-Suite (Gmail, Calendar, Chat Hangouts, Keep, etc), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Online Design Software (Canva), Email Marketing Software (Mailchimp), CRM (Hubspot).
  • Preferred: Graphical design skills for print and web. Use of Canva, Gimpshop, Publisher. Ability to manage webpage content in WordPress and other popular CMS.
  • Leadership qualities, startup attitude, results-oriented, driven to help achieve team goals. Self-motivated and self-directing.
  • Interest and sensitivity towards CASA’s mission and impact. A heart and passion for working to make the world a better place through nonprofit action.
  • Curiosity and interest in continuous learning. Demonstrated effort to maintain and grow knowledge in relevant areas. Research and learn how to do new things. Test new procedures to see. Quick technological adopter.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines independently
  • Ability to direct and supervise interns and volunteer groups, guaranteeing productivity while providing them with a positive experience.
